What is Circle Voting?

Circle Voting is using information and endorsements from people that you know to be of like mind to help decide your vote on  all races on the ballot.  Many committed regular voters already do this in races of low interest so they can promote their values without putting a lot of time into preparation.

The Religious Right, by organizing in its churches, has used social networking over the years to promote its agenda by bringing out those members that share their values but have low or no interest in politics.  Similarly labor unions have brought out the vote in their workplaces.

With the far reach of the internet, CircleVoting.com, is a way to involve the diversity of people with little interest in politics, but care a lot about our health, environment, human rights,...

The interactive features on the next pages show users can choose a Council of Advisors from friends and political experts that they consider to be of like mind.  Users can then create a sample ballot for their own polling place with a summary of the recommendations and insights for all races.  Where the advisors differ, a more detailed report can be examined.  When they all point to the same candidate, the user could vote confidently.

Circle Voting will mean:

  • Better candidates coming out of the primaries for ALL offices.  Only 5 to 10% of those eligible vote in primaries, so even some strategic voting could make a big difference. Not much is known about many state and local candidates but key decisions (involving the zoning, gay marriage,…) will be decided by these offices.
  • More votes from like minded circle members with low interest in politics. Committed voters can multiply their votes by offering their recommendations along with others to make it easy for people that care very much about the future to vote.
  • Affiliations that can continue in future elections.  The advisory connections made now can continue through the general election to local elections where even less people vote. This can lead to a reshaping of politics as we know it.  See Vision.
  • More attention to the lower levels of the ballot where a small number of votes can make a big difference.
  • More Votes from the Heart on what Matters.  If you are not turned on by the political melodrama, here is a way to vote to promote the issues that really matter to you without getting caught up in the polarizations, negativity, and misinformation.
