Your actions can dramatically influence others in your circle (the research in the left sidebar.) Many movements started small and spread through social networks before they were noticed by the media: recycling, meditation, yoga, use of the internet. Big social changes started with just a handful standing up and inspiring their networks: civil rights, women's and gay liberation... Use that influence with like minded members in
your own circle around the issues that matter to you:
There are big issues in this campaign: our environment, economy, health care, our place in the world, and even basic human right. Think of one that you really care about. Now you have a chance to act on these feelings instead of
keeping them bottled up by reaching out to your circle. Direct some of that energy to the key states. Our networks spread across the country. Let them know how especially important their involvement is to you and to us. Spread this link, but more important spread your concern about the future, your new involvement and inspire theirs. You are empowering people around the issues that are important to you. These connections can last beyond this year. (Vision) Don't hesitate to contact people. Often we need to hear things from more than one person before we really listen.

James Fowler has reported large scale studies of social networks over time in the New England Journal of Medicine. He found that that "when one person gains weight, close friends tend to gain weight." Fowler also has shown that a "single voting decision may effect dozens of other voters in a 'turnout cascade.
He has found that ""smoking
behavior spreads through
close and distant social ties. Groups of interconnected people
stop smoking in concert, and smokers are increasingly marginalized
socially." Key States President Senate Gay Rights * on two lists
